How do I create an app password?

While the Thunderbird desktop app only requires your actual Thundermail account password, some third-party email apps (like Outlook or Apple Mail) require a separate app password to connect.

Setting the app password

  1. Sign in to your Thundermail Accounts dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the “Account settings” section.
  3. Click the “Create app password” button.
  4. Type the password you want to use into the “New password” field.
  5. Enter it again for the “Confirm password” field.
  6. Click the “Save” button.
Please remember to note this password. You will not be able to view or recover it later!

You now have an app password to use! With that password and the other information shown in the “Server settings” section of your Email settings page, you will have everything you need to get your email client working. Please check your client's documentation if you get stuck past this point.

If you do ever need to change your app password or you forget it in the future, you can always reset it by clicking the “Change app password” button in the “Account settings” section of your Thundermail Accounts dashboard.
