How do I use an alias or custom domain in Webmail?

Want to send emails using a custom domain or a personal alias instead of your primary email address? Setting up a new identity in Webmail is the key!

Using an alias or custom domain in Webmail is a simple two-step process:

  1. Create the identity: Add your custom domain or alias address in your Webmail settings.

  2. Sending from the identity: When composing or replying to an email, click the From field dropdown to choose which address your recipient sees.

Follow the sections below to set up your new identity and learn how to select it whenever you compose a message.

Create the identity:

  1. Login to the Thundermail Dashboard and click the link to open Webmail.
  2. Within Webmail, click the "Contacts" icon.
  3. Under the "Manage" category, select the "Identities" section.
  4. Click "+ Add Identity" to add a new identity.
  5. Fill out the following sections:
    • Display name (optional): This is the friendly name that you'll see an email coming from. If it's a person, it's usually a first name or their full name. This is also where you can put the name of your business. If you're not sure what you want to use, you can leave this blank or just enter the email address you're using.
    • Email (required): Enter your custom domain email address or custom alias email address here.
    • Reply-To address (optional): If you'd like replies to emails sent by this address to go to a different inbox, you can specify that here.
    • Automatic BCC Address: If you'd like emails to automatically BCC a separate address every time they're sent from your custom address, enter that address and a display name for it here.
    • Signature (optional)
  6. Click "Save identity"
  7. If you'd like one of your new identities to act as your default sending address moving forward, select the newly created identity and click the "Set as primary" button in the top left.

Sending from the identity:

  1. Within Webmail, click the "+ New Message" button in the top left.
  2. Your primary identity will be chosen by default. To select a different one, you can click the From field to show all of your identities that you've added previously.

Once your new identity is saved, you should be all set! If you ever need to update your sender name, switch back to your primary address, or remove an old alias, you can return to your identity settings at any time.
