When you upload a file to Thunderbird Send, right after the password setting step, you will be given options for when you want your download link to expire. Once it does, your recipients will no longer be able to download it. Your options are:
- Never expire (if you want your link to work as long as the file is available on your account)
- Expire in 24 hours
- Expire in 14 days (this is the default setting)
- Expire in 30 days
- Select date and time (allowing you to pick an exact day and time for the expiration)
Which option is best? That’s up to you and how your file will be used. Are you sending to multiple people and want to make sure everyone has had a chance to see your message and download? Maybe give it 14-30 days. Does the file contain extremely sensitive information? Perhaps keep your file link available for only 24 hours for extra safety.
One thing to keep in mind is that you will not be able to change this expiration later.
After you have picked what’s right for you, press the “Create Link” button to finish the process. Now you’re ready to send your file!
